Frequently Asked Questions
Are there scholarships or financial aid available?
Educational equity is at the core of our founding mission. For this reason, we offer our pro bono package, the Access Initiative, to students who come from low socioeconomic backgrounds or are underrepresented in medicine.
For more information, we encourage you to navigate to our “Access Initiative” page
Besides the Access Initiative, does Nexus offer other free resources to students?
We are very active on social media and post free content to help support you on your premedical journey on topics ranging from research outreach to writing essays for summer programs and colleges.
If you need one-time guidance to help you on your journey, we’re happy to take a free 1-on-1 call with you to discuss your questions! Just book a call on our contact page and let us know that you’d like to have a quick chat with one of our mentors.
We will also be giving away free Nexus spreadsheets, planners, and resources on our Insights page, so stay tuned!
Who are the mentors?
Our mentors are accomplished pre‑medical and medical students who have successfully navigated the pre-med process at top high schools and universities. They offer a recent, relevant perspective: something many traditional advising services, often led by professionals long removed from the process, can’t provide.
Each mentor is carefully selected for their exceptional academic achievements, leadership experience, writing ability, and commitment to mentorship and educational equity. Together, they deliver the high‑touch, comprehensive guidance that defines the Nexus advising experience.
Before enrollment, you’ll receive a curated list of potential mentors to choose from, ensuring the best personal fit. Your selection can also be adjusted after the trial period to guarantee the right match for your needs.
What if I’m a college student?
Because our mentorship model is longitudinal, we’re intentional about the number of students we bring on each year. Nexus mentors commit deeply to guiding students over multiple years, helping them implement strategies, build habits, and grow through every phase of the pre‑med journey.
To maintain that level of individualized attention, we reserve space primarily for students who can begin early and fully benefit from our long‑term guidance, accepting only a small number of exceptional college freshmen each semester.
How long do mentorship engagements last?
To provide students with the most benefit from their longitudinal mentorship experience, we encourage them to keep working with their mentors until they gain admission to medical school.
However, each package lasts for a month from the date of the first meeting and can be renewed indefinitely for the Pipeline Program. Students in the Access Initiative will be guaranteed placement in the program for six months, and can be renewed based on completion of mentorship tasks and perfect attendance.
Families have the option of cancelling their commitments free of charge until the beginning of the second session if they feel that Nexus is not the right fit for them.
What should I expect during the free consultation?
Firstly, we’ll create a comprehensive, immediately actionable 4-year plan for the rest of your high school journey to maximize the chances of getting into an undergraduate pre-med program that fits your goals and needs.
We’ll also be sure to answer any questions you may have about the path to medical school, including admissions, coursework, extracurriculars, and more.
Then, we’ll discuss Nexus’s Pipeline Program in more depth and address any questions you may have about us.
What is Nexus’s approach to mentorship?
At Nexus, mentorship isn’t transactional: it’s transformational. Each student is matched with a mentor who stays with them throughout their entire pre‑med journey.
Over time, this partnership builds trust, encouragement, and insight, empowering students to grow with consistency and confidence from day one to acceptance.
